Our President Emeritus' Message

Hello Central Forest Park Neighbors,

I am excited to be serving as your CFPCA President Emeritus.  Along with the new President and Board, our goal is to continue with cooperation and mutual respect so Central Forest Park remains a great place to live.  While things might look different this year with COVID-19, I'm confident we can still find ways to engage and connect with our neighbors.  Having a sense of community is needed now more than ever and I hope you will join me in becoming an active participant to achieve this goal.  In addition to our bi-month meetings, we have standing community members who are looking for continuous improvement, and various community events throughout the year.  Please consider joining us when you can, as it's not only a great way to meet your neighbors, it also ensures your voice is heard regarding concerns or ideas for improvement.   New faces are always welcomed to provide a new perspective and fresh ideas.

I have enjoyed meeting new homeowners and becoming even more involved in my community.  You may see me and our board members walking through the neighborhood frequently, so please stop and say hello when the opportunity arises.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns and aren't sure who to reach out to, you can send an email to CFPCA @gmail . com. This will ensure all requests are reviewed in a timely manner and addressed appropriately.   We also ask that we have your current email address as we will be sending more frequent communications by email.  Thank you and once again, we look forward to you helping us make this community an even better place!

Sincerely,

George

The History of Central Forest Park

Developing Forest Park

In 1892, Frank Callaway created a company to buy 32 acres of land from John S. Gittings's estate to divide the land into lots and sell it to developers, however Callaway failed to do so due to poor electric motorcar services. He soon got in touch with investors and named the development Forest Park, where it stands as one of the largest and popular developments in the city.

The Central Forest Park Neighborhood

Central Forest Park is located east of the Baltimore City/County line and is referred by locals as "Forest Park".  Before the Vietnam war, it was the center for the Baltimore Jewish community that moved from downtown before experiencing a mass migration of whites, becoming 95% white in 1960. By 1970 however, it has become almost exclusively African American, with 95% of residents being black.
